What is so fearful from this player is his unique style of playing. LiquidTLO has no fear in pulling out cheeses or unseen new strategies that often catch his unprepared opponent off guard. Playing as a random player previously definitely give TLO an edge in understanding each races.
During LiquidTLO's match against EG_Idra the Gracken, TLO pulled off a fantastic new strategy. Staying on no Gas during early in the game, TLO puts down not 1 or 2 additional Barracks but 6 more Barracks making a total of 7 Barracks during his Game 1 against the Zerg player on Xel' Naga Caverns. Fans and crowds around the world were surprised by TLO's weird and funky new build. During the game, TLOs build was totally hidden from EG_Idra until he was ready to move out with a massive amount of Marines towards Idra's natural expansion. This definitely alerts Gracken Idra of a heavy Marines and Barracks play. Idra proceeded to massed up a large number of Zerglings and finally took down TLO's first incoming wave calmly.
It seems that TLO is quite behind after losing the first engagement. However, this is not the case, as LiquidTLO is bringing out the second Marine forces which is even larger than the first one. Idra's Baneling Nest has completed, and Banelings are on the making. However, without Baneling Speed upgrade, TLO's massive marine push proves to be too much for Idra to handle and Idra GG and taps out.
What we can learn from this strategy is the fearsome of the massive 7 Barracks Marines All In army. With Marines high damage per second (DPS) and a good 'STUTTER STEP' Marine Micro, this strategy will give the Zerg a hard time in dealing with it. This is the build order that LiquidTLO used for the 7 Barracks Marines All in.
10 Supply Depot
12 Barracks
15 Marines + Orbital Command Upgrade
16 Supply Depot
20 Five Additional Barracks
21 Barracks (Total of 7 Barracks)
- TLO stopped SCV production when he has around 18 SCVs.
- Remember to build more additional Supply Depots and not getting supply blocked, as each round of Marines takes away 7 food or a Supply Depot easily
- Have Marines patrolling at the corner of your base for any Scouting Overlords. This will determine the success of this build where you very much want to catch the Zerg player off guard.
- Watch the rally points of your Marines. Good Zerg players will try to intercept and deal with your rallying Marines instead of your main force if he is down on army count. This is how Idra managed to deal with the first push of LiquidTLO
- If the 7 Barracks Marines pushes fail, you have probably lost the game, unless you have dealt the Zerg player serious damage.
This isn't a new strategy. People have been doing this since beta.
ReplyDeleteYou may be probably right, but its never been pulled off in high level SC2 tournaments.
ReplyDeleteSounds exactly like the Mango build....
