EG.Puma Wins IEM Cologne

Eg.Puma wins IEM Cologne, taking down his second international event claiming his second SC2 tournament with impressive results throughout the whole tournament. Facing against Puma in the finals is none other than oGsMC the Kratoss Protoss, ObamaToss, two times GSL champion. This will be their rematch from the previous North American Starcraft League (NASL) where these two champions meet in the finals. Puma bested MC in the NASL with a 4:3 record. This time in IEM Cologne, Puma once again took down MC with a straight 3 wins. Puma's superior performance has been remarkable beating Socke 3-0 in the semifinals and 3-0 Nercheo in the quarterfinals. This is a amazing 9-0 results in top 8 matches.

MC on the other hand once again fell in the hands of Puma. MC wanted this rematch so badly and he got it. The best Protoss player in the world wanted to have his revenge against
Puma. However, although MC played magnificently in the finals, he still lost to the deadly 1 Base Terran all in 1-1-1. Puma use the 1-1-1 build twice out of the three matches and won both. MC is clearly not very happy about his result after the matches.

Heres a short recap of the finals. Game 1 on Xel'Naga Caverns. Puma goes for a 1-1-1 with Banshee Clock while MC goes for a 1 Gate expansion into 3 Gates with Robo. Puma's Banshee deals basically no damage as MC placed his Stalkers perfectly. When the Marines, Banshees, Raven, Tanks and SCV push came, MC patiently waited for the perfect opportunity to engage. MC sacrificed his expansion before engaging and fend the deadly push off successfully. However, Puma's Raven managed to retreat. MC reclaim his expansion. As we all know the 1-1-1 push hits twice not once. The second push is as deadly or probably deadlier than the first. This all depends on how much losses the Protoss suffered. During the second push, MC failed to kill the Banshess and high DPS marines with Stalkers Zealots and Immortals. The Raven played an important role for its Point Defense Drone. MC proceeded to GG.

In the second game on Terminus RE, a long macro war occurred. Puma was ahead on upgrades most of the time. MC on the other hand has a strong economy with heavy Gateway units. MC showed his awesome High Templar with Warp Prism micro to dodge the Ghosts EMP. In the end, the fully upgraded Terran Bio army is just too strong for the heavy Gateway forces.

Game 3 on Metalopolis. Once again Puma goes for a 1-1-1 build. MC opens with Phoenix and a Ninja expansion opposite Puma's base. Puma continued to mass up Marines, Tanks, Ravens and the push finally came. MC got into a base trade with Puma. MC's Blink Stalker army can never face Eg.Puma in a face fight. Puma scouted MC's expansion and took it down. Terran has the advantage during a base trade because Terran can just lift their buildings all around the map. Puma managed to keep his only Barracks together with his army. MC on the other hand was left with only a Pylon. The Terran Siege Tank leap frog came inch by inch closer every minute. Finally, MC blinked his Stalkers into the Terran army for a last engaging and hoping for a miracle. However, everyone knows the results of the engagement. Puma is crowned the champion of IEM Cologne.

Mana claimed the 3rd place and Socke the forth. Two Koreans in the top 2. 3 Protoss in the top 4. The Koreans still show why they are the best players in the world when it comes down to Starcraft. Team Evil Geniuses has done an awesome job in picking up Puma from TSL. Although the transfer wasn't very well received by the Starcraft community, EG still successfully picked a future champion.

However, an uproar amongst the Protoss players arise after Puma's easy win on MC. The imbalance of Terran 1-1-1 one base all in has been deemed too strong even at all levels. Slayers_Alicia himself even Twittered on this imbalance. Although MC played so well in the finals, he still lost to the 1-1-1 all in. When a strategy has a 80% or more win ratio, this is imbalance. This is not a random figure as there are charts and results to be based in. Even professional Protoss gamers are having a hard time with the 1-1-1. Blizzard should do something about this as soon as possible.

Congratulations to Eg.Puma for winning IEM Season VI- Global Challenge Cologne
