PvP Cannon Rush Cheese on Xel Naga Caverns

Good old Cannon rush cheese still works wonders even in Grandmasters SC2. I have done countless of Cannon rush especially on Xel Naga Caverns during my online game play. Xel Naga Caverns is the only 2 player map currently left in the solo 1v1 map pool. Thus, this is the perfect map to cheese your way. I have won countless of Protoss vs Protoss on this map by Cannon rushing.

Heres the build order (Standard build)
  • 9 Pylon
  • 12 Forge (Scout with your Probe)
  • 2 more probes (14/18) (You can stop Probe production for now)
  • Basically you need 300 minerals to wall off behind your opponents mineral line with 3 Pylons
  • When your Pylon is done, Build 2 Cannons and watch your opponent rage!!

You can place your Pylon and Forge as below or near the top corner of the base. This forces your opponent to scout around your base to find the location. (Its better to place on top corner)

When your Probe reaches your opponent base, immediately build 3 Pylons as above. (Do remember to start building the Pylons from behind the mineral line. Use Shift key to build faster)

Build 2 Cannons and VIOLA. Watch your opponent Rage. Do remember to build a Cannon at your base, in case he pull all his Probes and Zealots to your base.

This is how you wall with your Pylons if your opponent spawns at the bottom of the map. Do try a few times before you start pulling this Cannon rush cheese off in your online game plays as a wrongly place Pylon can cost you the game.

Why does this Cannon rush work?
In high level of PvP, players often scout with the 12th Probe after Gateway rallying around to find proxy Gateway.

When doesn't this work?
However, some players often scout at 9th Probe. If he does and finds out of your Forge, you are most likely to lose. This is what defines Cheese. If you fail you lose.

Some players will send a Probe following your Probe around to prevent you to start your Pylon until he scouts your base. If he does this, your Cannon rush will most likely fail.
