Splitting Workers between Expansion

Most people will be asking this very same question. What is the most efficient way to split your works between your main and expansion. There are currently 2 ways known in splitting your workers.

Option 1
Drag half the workers at your mineral line and send them to your expansion. A lot of Korean Pro gamers are using this way. This way you will lose the mineral mining for the few seconds during the transfer. You have to transfer a second time to move excess workers to the natural for the Gases.

Pros
  •  Easy to execute
  • You keep the initial rally from your Nexus
  • You do not risk your workers traveling across the map after the initial transfer
Cons
  • Oversaturating the main base is very common. I have seen countless gamers oversaturate their main and undersaturate their expansion. As we all know the optimum efficient mining requires 16 workers per base.
Option 2
Rally both your Nexus to the minerals at your expansion.
We will first select to check how many Workers you have at your main base. You can easily tell as 1 row consists of 8 workers. You will be focusing in the third row of the workers. Here I have 6 workers. I will then select 6 workers and send them over to the expansion. With experience, you can do this instantly without counting the number of workers. Saturate the expansion. Finally, rally back your main base to the minerals there.

Pros
  • Efficient way to saturate both bases, without oversaturating your main base. More minerals
  • You only risk a small amount of mining minerals during the transfer.
Cons
  • Slightly more micro required.
  • Sometimes the worker AI is bugged as some mineral patches will be mined by 3 workers while another 1 worker
A lot of good players are using the second option here too. I am currently using he second way. I feel that this is more efficient early in the game. However, when the game gets longer into 3, 4 or 5 bases,  the first option is definitely preferred. You do not want to risk sending your Workers one by one to your expansions. This even allow your opponent to know where your expansion is.

Thus the best way is to use the Second option for your first expansion and stick to the First Option during your third base onwards.
