All of us have played the map Shakuras Plateau in our solo 1v1 matches before. But how many of you do realize that there is only 7 mineral patches at the expansion outside our starting base location? If you already know this, good, as you understand your maps more than a lot of players out there. I bet a lot of you don't realize the fact that there's only 7 mineral patches. Take a look at the Shakuras Plateau map above. Both the red X mark shows that there are only 7 mineral patches at those locations. The same applies for every other starting bases.
You may be wondering this doesn't seem to be important. I'll say it does in some games that you play on this map such as a long macro game. Sometimes the extra mineral patch which gives us an additional 14.2% extra income compared to a 7 mineral patches will determine the game. However, this factor alone will not determine the outcome for majority of your games.
As a general rule, 2 workers mining from a mineral patch gives the highest return for us as each additional worker provides us with just a minimal extra income. I do not recommend you to build only 16 mineral mining workers at your main base as you are always going to need your expansion unless you are pulling off some 4 gate all in builds or one base all ins. The highest amount of workers you can place at each mineral patches is 3. Hence, 24 mineral workers for your starting base with 8 mineral patches.
Thus, on shakuras plateau, the best saturation at your 7 mineral patches is 14 workers on minerals. You can always build more workers to prepare for another location. This article is just to provide some tips and strategy guide on Shakuras Plateau knowledge.
Another important tips here. Your opponent can only spawn the other side of the map. If you are spawning on the left side, your opponent will always be on the right side either the top or bottom base. So no point wasting your time in scouting the same base as your side.
Both the islands on Lost Temple has 7 mineral patches too for your information. The new GSL maps has different mineral patches as well. Do find out yourself.
Cheers.
