Terran Tips TvP

Protoss players are starting to use the Zealot Archon mix against Terran players more and more currently and this seems to be the current trend in the battlenet online game. I personally have been a huge favourite of this strategy with a large number of Chargelots with Archons and Templars. As a Terran player, when you are facing against this unit mix, it is best for you to get as many Ghosts as possible. Ghost are incredible and the perfect counter against this Protoss death ball due to their EMP effect of removing 100 Energy as well as Shields from the Protoss. A few well placed EMPs can end the game right there.

The late game of PvT currently mostly dictated by the Storm and EMP battles and battle positioning. If the Terran player manage to EMP all the High Templars, the Protoss player is as good as dead. On the other hand, Feedbacks often time instantly one shot kill the Ghosts. Thus, the battle between Ghosts and High Templars will always determine the outcome of the Terran vs Protoss late game if there are no Colossus and Vikings.

I will outline some tips here when you are facing against Protoss players going for the fast Speedlots with Archon mix during your online game plays.

1. Build Supply Depots in front of your Bunkers

The strength of the Zealot Archon mix is their durability facing against Terran opponents. With +1 or +2 armor upgrade on the Zealots and Guardian Shield for additional +2 armor, this unit mix can tank the Terran ball forever. The main weakness of this Protoss mix is when fighting at a choke. Zealots needs a large area for them to deal maximum damage. With this in mind, if you are facing against Zealot Archon mix, it is best to build some Supply Depots in front of your Bunkers. What this does is the Zealots are forced to Charge into the Supply Depots and others will be stuck between Chokes. Terrans bio ball can easily fend off and defend against this pressure. This is the perfect defence against the very popular Zealot Archon mix currently in online game plays.

2. Use your Factory
Most Terran players has been doing a very good job of using their Factory to scout. Due to its high hit points, it is very hard for Protoss to destroy the flying building without having a large number of Stalkers. If the Protoss player opts for a Zealot Archon mix, the Factory plays an even more important role here.

First, during battles, if you have your Factory with your Army, often times the battle will occur with Terran Stim, Zealots Charges in, Terran micros back and repeat until the Zealots are dead. The Archons will often times be targeting the Factory instead of chasing the Terran bio ball. This is unless the Protoss micros and moves the Archons close enough to the Terran army again.


Landing a Factory to choke of the Zealots is a very good tactic to be used against a large Zealot Ball. You will be forcing the Zealots to fight at a Choke while your army is dealing maximum damage with Medivacs healing. As a Protoss having your units targeting buildings without your knowledge is the worst possible scenario in battles. Having 1-2 Colossus targeting buildings is as good as having none.

3. Scan Scan Scan Observers
You must always kill off any Observers on top of your army. I cant stress enough how importants are Observers for Protoss. Observers gives too much valuable information of the Terran army and most important the location of Ghosts. With the help of Observers, Protoss can easily Feedback the Ghost. Thus, you should always take down any Observers on your army. If you managed to catch the Protoss player offguard without Observers with a few Cloaked Ghosts and EMP, you will most likely win the match on the spot.

The Zealot, Archon, High Templar mix is a fearsome Protoss ball. However, if you know how to handle it property, this army mix will evaporate in seconds to the mighty Terran Stim Bio Ball.
