How to Defend Zerglings with Workers Micro

Ever lost all your workers either SCVs, Drones or Probes to Zergling that managed to sneak into your mineral line? I think everyone had lost a couple of games to early Zergling rushes before. However, with a little micro, you can improve your chance of defending Zerglings and surviving from rushes considerably. I will show you a step by step how on to defend against Zerglings in Starcraft 2 solo 1v1 online game.

• Workers vs 6 Zerglings

This often occurs when the Zerg playing is going for a fast Spawning Pool, whether a 6, 7, 8 or 10 pool. The amount of Zerglings will most likely be 6 with more on its way. Without micro you may probably lose a few SCVs. With the following steps you can reduce the damage inflicted to minimum loses. This micro ensures maximum damage is done to those Zerglings by surround them with your workers while reducing the damage received by your workers.



STEP 1

6 Zerglings heading to your mineral line. The first step here is to select all your workers, either SCVs, Probes or Drones and 'RIGHT CLICK' them to the furthest mineral. In this case will be the left most mineral patch.

STEP 2

When your workers are bunched up at the left most mineral patch, RIGHT CLICK on the Right most mineral patch. You need to time well to have the Zerglings surrounded by your workers.

STEP 3

When half of your workers travel pass the Zerglings, click 'A', the short cut for ATTACK and LEFT CLICK on the ground. This will let your workers to surround the six Zerglings.

STEP 4

After surrounding the Zerglings, it is best to pull out any SCV's that are damaged by the Zerglings. Click the SCV and RIGHT CLICK it on the mineral. This will let the SCV to get out of the battle and continue mining. Due to Starcraft 2 AI the Zerglings will give a higher priority to units that are attacking them. In this case, will be the fighting SCVs.

• Workers vs a lot of Zerlings

In this case, more Zerglings manage to sneak into your mineral line. This often occurs when you are leaving the front of your base open, due to moving out with your armies or lowering your Supply Depot in Starcraft 2 game. You will have to deal with a great number of Zerglings.

The best option is to run your workers around in circles while trying to wait for your main army to get back. This is only possible if the Zerglings do not have Speed upgrade. If they do, you may probably be in a lot of trouble here as workers in Starcraft 2 is generally very weak against Zerglings.

In order to reduce the damage received to bare minimum this is the step by step. Do take note, you may still lose quite a few workers.

STEP 1

10 Zerglings are making their ways to the mineral line. The other option to the above tactic will be just use your Starcraft 2 workers to prevent the Zerlings in making their way to the mineral line.

STEP 2

Select all your workers and attack move with them.

STEP 3

Select the front line of the SCVs that are taking damage and RIGHT click them onto the minerals. This will send them back to mining minerals while the second workers line will be engaging the Zerglings.

STEP 4

Repeat the process until all the Zerglings are taken out.

Try for yourself the steps shown above by microing your workers against Zerglings. The steps shown here are purely an example on how to deal with Zerglings. This does not take into considerations other units you have. With a little micro, you can often times save yourself from Zerglings that made pass into your mineral line. You will be winning a lot more Starcraft 2 games with this little worker micro trick.
