Heart of The Swarm- Starcraft 2 Expansion

Heart of The Swarm will be the expansion for the all time popular top online game Starcraft 2 series. Following the very sucessful SC2: Wings of Liberty release, Blizzard has just revealed some details of SC2: Heart of the Swarm. Following from where the story is left out in Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm will be focusing on Sarah Kerrigan and her Zerg legions as oppose to previous Jim Raynor in WOL. Gamers will be experiencing a new experience through this 20 mission single player mode in the quest of regaining Sarah Kerrigan's attempt to rebuilt the Zerg swarm.

If you can still remember the ending of Wings of Liberty where Sarah Kerrigan is seen carried off by Jim Raynor in a human form at the end of the single player campaign, however, Kerrigan is retaining some of her Queen of Blades power. Since her absence at the throne of the swarm, some Zerg brood mothers are attempting to take over her control and it is her job to reclaim her throne.

 

This time around focusing on Kerrigan's missions, the settings for the main screen of HOTS will be at the Leviathan as oppose to the Hyperion Batthecruiser in WOL. Kerrigan will be accompanied by another two Zergs; Abathur, the expert in the Zerg field which strongly believes that Sarah Kerrigan should reclaim her throne and Izsha. Za'gara is one of the Broodmothers denying Kerrigan's throne and seeking to control the brood swarm herself. Your missions in HOTS will be reclaim your Queen of Blades throne and destroying the vicious looking Za'gara.

This time around in Heart of the Swarm, Blizzard has introduced the new snow covered terrain in the world of Starcraft 2 and the feral yetis inhabiting the icy world. Basically the general game play in the single player mode, will be quite similiar its predecessor. You will now be having Zerg upgrades through the Evolution Chamber as oppose to the Armory in Wings of Liberty.

Blizzard did not release further much details on Heart of the swarm other than the official HOTS Trailer and sneak previews on the missions. Any additional or new units for each race such as the Zerg, Protoss or Terran are not revealed. However, we will definitely be given new units and probably some additional production facilities in HOTS. This is what expansion sets are for; where major changes to the game and introduction of new units will occur. Blizzard has not released the official release date for SC2: Hearts of the Swarm yet. Some sources claim that HOTS will be release early next year (2012), but, its Blizzard we're talking here. They has always been doing a good job in keeping their gamer's enthusiast over their launches.

As for the Battle.net system in HOTS, Blizzard will be introducing a new Bnet feature called the 'Starcraft 2 Marketplace'. Here thousands of custom game maps and Mods will be showcased. The marketplace will also be a commerce place where map makers can charge a fee for their maps. I am personally not a big fan of this where you have to pay to play some custom game maps.
