How to Improve in Starcraft 2 - Part 14- Have a Good Computer and Mouse

If you plan to be a good Starcraft 2 gamer, you always need a good and decent computer. It is not recommended to just have computer that is borderline for Starcraft 2 minimum requirement. This will affects the graphic settings as well as your frame rate which will have a huge impact in your games. I first started playing Starcraft 2 with a below minimum requirement computer specs and I have to admit that that was a very bad experience. Having to play with constant screen tearing and freezing is not a good feeling. Thus, I do recommend using better and higher specs computers to run Starcraft 2.

However, if you are experiencing constant rise and drop in your FPS Frame per second, this is mostly due to your Graphic Settings. To view your FPS, press and hold ALT + CTRL + F in Starcraft 2, which will reveal a small numerical number on the top left of your screen. To OFF just repeat the keys. Some people including me are experiencing a huge spike and drop in FPS due to our bad hardware. Download the latest drivers for your hardware first. You can also try the following method to cap your frame rates.
  • Double Click on "My Computer"
  • Click on "Your Name Documents"
  • Navigate to Starcraft 2 folder and click it
  • You should see a text document called 'Variables'. This is where all your Starcraft 2 settings are saved. Eg mouse speed, graphic settings etc.
  • Double click on Variables to enter a notepad.
  • Save these 2 lines of codes inside the text between F and G. And safe.
             frameratecap=60
             frameratecapGlue=30

           It should look something like this:

           foliagequality=0
           frameratecap=60
           frameratecapGlue=30
           gamehdr8bit=1
           GraphicsOptionEffectsDetail=0

What this basically does is, capping your ingame framerate at 60 and frame for your Starcraft 2 user interface at 30.

Having a good mouse is the next thing. Most of the Razer mouse products with high Dpi will be highly recommended.

A headphone is better option compared to speakers for Starcraft 2. Headphones gives you higher awareness and reduces your reaction time.

However, this may seem wierd, I am playing Starcraft 2 with a cheap $5 mouse and a computer with barely minimum requirement specs. I have to admit this greatly affects my game and limits my improvement.

Cheers.
